It’s official: My kids are hooked on mangoes.
Mango smoothies, mango nice-cream, mango popsicles, mango straight up. And as luck would have it, they’ve been really good quality this season and not as expensive as the past few years. The better quality and lower prices means that I didn’t need to closet-eat mangos on the down low….shush… that’s our secret.
Anyway all this means is that we’ve been eating a lot of mangos this summer.. yay us. And swimming… and blending… and.. well you get the idea.
I’m also pretty excited about the glorious bag of hemp seeds that I scored. Did you know that hemp seeds are high in omega-3’s, fibre and calcium? Or that they are super-awesome for balancing your hormones? You only need a tablespoon per day to reach your daily quota of omegas and get a protein hit and the same time. Pretty dope huh? (See what I did there?)
If you have the chance to buy some hemp seeds they go great in smoothies, raw crackers, sprinkled on salads or granola. Every time we have them in the house they don’t seem to last long enough.
This smoothie is becoming our holiday go-to…
I’ve used a simple combination of mango, oranges, banana, hemp seeds, vanilla, water…..all the good stuff. You could maybe use a tablespoon of coconut sugar because… well why not? You deserve it right? Seriously. It’s not complicated stuff. It’s simple ingredients coming together in a perfect blend. If you don’t have hemp seeds, don’t stress it. This smoothie is still the bomb diggity either way.
Since it’s been so damn hot here lately we’ve been peeling and segmenting oranges and freezing them in zip lock bags. The kids love them and they’re also handy for smoothie ingredients.
So we’ve hit the midway point of the holidays and the kids are starting to get bored. Luckily there’s swimming, although all the swimming in the world doesn’t seem to clean their finger nails. Meh..what you going to do?
Last week I bought three boxes of mangoes from the mango-selling dude off the side of the road so it’s safe to say we’re pretty sorted for a while.
Ok, I’m done here.
Cheers from us.
