10 Brands of Ethical Makeup
Have you ever considered what’s in that mascara wand you use every morning? What about your foundation, or lipstick?
Many makeup products today contain harsh chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrances, synthetic colors, sulfates, and formaldehyde, just to name a few. We always worry about making sure we wear clothing that is produced in an ethical manner, why not makeup? The skin is the body’s largest organ, and anything you put on your skin will eventually make its way into your body. Yet, many beauty products contain chemicals that have never been tested on humans, and its largely unknown how the combination of chemicals react.
These makeup brands try to minimize or eliminate completely the contact you have with common chemicals typically used in beauty products, instead choosing natural, organic and ethical ingredients that support sustainable organizations. By using products created by companies who are dedicated to clean and safe ingredients, your skin will absorb nutrients rather than chemicals, and you can go about your day feeling beautiful and healthy.
To check out any product, the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Database rates over 80,000 products and is an excellent resource for safe and ethical ingredients.
